+**Aegeus** was a mythical [King](/wiki/king) of [Athens](/wiki/athens), and father to the hero Theseus. His grief, mistaking black sails for his son's death, led him to cast himself into the sea, now known as the [Aegean Sea](/wiki/aegean_sea).
