Assault Gun

+An assault gun is a heavily armored [Self-Propelled Artillery](/wiki/self-propelled_artillery) piece, designed to provide direct fire support to infantry. These vehicles typically mount a large-caliber [Tank Gun](/wiki/tank_gun) or howitzer, primarily for destroying fortifications and other static targets during an assault. Their role was close-range fire, not anti-tank combat.
