The War of the Austrian Succession (1740–1748) erupted following the death of Emperor Charles VI, challenging the right of his daughter, Maria Theresa, to inherit the Habsburg lands. European powers vied for influence across the continent. Though Maria Theresa largely secured her inheritance, she notably lost Silesia to Prussia, setting the stage for future rivalries.
