+Colchis was an ancient kingdom on the eastern shore of the [Black Sea](/wiki/black-sea), in what is now modern [Georgia](/wiki/georgia). Famed in Greek myth as the destination of the Argonauts and home of the [Golden Fleece](/wiki/golden-fleece) and the sorceress [Medea](/wiki/medea), it was a land of abundant gold and rich culture.
