Cube Runners is a popular fangame based on Gorilla Tag. Unlike many other fangames, players control a cube instead of an animal.
The game also includes various cosmetics for player customization and diverse gamemodes such as "Flash Flood" and "Disaster Survival." In every version, an insanely popular horror mode is also featured.
Versions
V1
This version is very obscure, not many people played the game at the time. It featured many gamemodes, similar to later versions, but one distinguishing characteristic was the inclusion of Horror Mode Chapter 2. Other versions either never reached Chapter 2 before the next version was released or development was cancelled.
V2
One of the most popular versions, V2 initially included only 5 gamemodes on release, with 4 more added later. This version introduced features V1 lacked, such as Paid Content, Collectibles, Lighting, and Admin Tools. V2 also featured its highly popular Horror Mode, which included 9 distinct levels but did not progress to Chapter 2. A notable feature tied to admin tools was the introduction of Admin Entities, allowing admins to equip scary forms (e.g., skinwalkers) that could kick players upon touch and play unsettling music.
V3
V3 is arguably the worst version. It updated the player model and significantly upgraded the game's visual style. This version featured fewer gamemodes than V2 and only 2 horror levels.
V4
This version refined the updated player model and visual style from V3, introducing more gamemodes and expanding on the horror levels, aiming to improve upon V3's shortcomings.
Incidents/Hackers
Multiple APKs archiving V1, V2, and V3 exist out there on the internet. Hackers use modified APKs that connect to the actual Cube Runners servers to gain access to admin and owner only items, such as entities or kick items, which they will usually abuse.
V3 Incident
During the V3 era, a modified APK was created and distributed, allowing anyone who installed it to use the 'worm' entity. The worm was removed from V3 due to this issue.
