+Futhark is a family of ancient [runes](/wiki/runes) used by Germanic peoples to write various [Germanic languages](/wiki/germanic_languages) from the 2nd to the 16th centuries. Named for its first six letters, it served as a vital script before the widespread adoption of the Latin alphabet.
