+**Gaulish language** was a [Continental Celtic](/wiki/continental_celtic) language spoken by the ancient [Gauls](/wiki/gauls) across much of Western Europe. It vanished by the 5th century CE, leaving behind mostly inscriptions, supplanted by Vulgar Latin.
