+**Geez** is an ancient [Ethiopic](/wiki/Ethiopic) [Semitic script](/wiki/Semitic_script) and language, historically significant in the Horn of Africa. Once the official tongue of the Aksumite Kingdom, it continues as the liturgical language for Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Churches. Though not spoken in daily life, Geez is the ancestor of many modern languages in the region.
