Gobo was named by [Scratch Team](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Scratch_Team) member Natalie Rusk.[\[1\]](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Gobo#cite_note-1) It was drawn by Wing Ngan.[\[2\]](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Gobo#cite_note-2) On February 14, [2011](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Timeline#2011), the Scratch Team announced that Gobo was the ninth most common sprite used in [projects](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Project) uploaded to the [Scratch Website](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Scratch_Website) (after buttonPressed).[\[3\]](https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Gobo#cite_note-3) It is unknown how commonly the sprite has been used more recently.
