Eventually, the episode's writer, Al Jean, noticed these requests and began to write an episode centered around Dan. The episode director Eric Koenig tried to get into contacts with Dan. Eventually Eric was successfully able to contact Dan, but gave it to Jean to handle the rest to talk to him about the episode. Jean was able to convince Dan to voice act in The Simpsons, something which Dan had never ever done before (voice acting). Shortly after the episode's release, Dan had posted this Tweet to his account:

Reception
The episode recieved mixed reviews. Some viewers were happy that Dan Hentschel was able to have an entire episode about him, whereas others questioned Dan's characterization, saying that he behaved differently, with his behavior being e.g. oblivious and childishly, not like how they think Dan normally behaves.
