+James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879) was a Scottish mathematician and physicist. He formulated the classical theory of [Electromagnetism](/wiki/electromagnetism), showing that electric and magnetic fields propagate as waves at the speed of [Light](/wiki/light). His four equations unified these fundamental forces.
