The Kingdom of Sardinia was a pre-unification state on the Italian Peninsula, comprising Sardinia and later Piedmont, Savoy, and Nice. Ruled by the House of Savoy, it spearheaded the movement for Italian Unification, ultimately forming the core of the future Kingdom of Italy.
