Machicolation is a floor opening in a projecting parapet, often found in medieval Castle architecture. It allowed defenders to drop projectiles, such as stones or boiling liquids, directly onto attackers at the base of the wall. This defensive feature provided critical protection for Fortification gatehouses and towers.
