Metastability

Metastability describes a state of Equilibrium that is not truly stable, but rather appears so until disturbed by a sufficient external input. Like a ball resting in a shallow dip on a slope, it requires an initial push to reach a lower, more Stable State. This temporary stability is common in physical and computational systems.
