Pliocene

The Pliocene was a geological epoch, a chapter in Earth's deep time when continents neared their present shapes. This period saw a cooling climate, ushering in the spread of grasslands and the rise of early hominins before the great ice ages of the Pleistocene. Following the Miocene, it spanned roughly 5.3 to 2.6 million years ago.
