+A **quartic equation** is a [polynomial](/wiki/polynomial) equation where the highest [degree](/wiki/degree) of the variable is four. It takes the general form $ax^4 + bx^3 + cx^2 + dx + e = 0$, and, like all polynomials up to this degree, its roots can be found by an algebraic method.
