+A **slug** is a [gastropod](/wiki/gastropod) [mollusc](/wiki/mollusc) that lacks a visible external shell, or has only a small, internal one. These soft-bodied creatures thrive in damp environments, moving slowly and leaving a characteristic trail of mucus.
