Transnistria is a thin strip of land, a self-proclaimed state nestled between Moldova and Ukraine. Though it declared independence in 1990, predating Moldova's independence from the Soviet Union, no United Nations member state recognizes it. The world largely considers this Unrecognized State part of Moldova, a lingering echo of Soviet times. Its flag features a red field with a green stripe horizontally across the middle, and in the upper hoist corner, the Hammer and Sickle emblem, a clear nod to its Soviet heritage. This situation has led to an ongoing 'frozen conflict' in the region.
