+Vichy France was the official [French State](/wiki/france) during [World War II](/wiki/world_war_ii), established in July 1940 after the armistice with Nazi Germany. This collaborationist regime governed the unoccupied "Free Zone" of metropolitan France and its colonial empire until its dissolution in 1944.
