+Ethiopic languages are a branch of the [Semitic](/wiki/Semitic) language family, itself part of the larger [Afro-Asiatic](/wiki/Afro-Asiatic) phylum. Spoken predominantly in Ethiopia and Eritrea, they are known for their distinctive Ge'ez script. The ancient [Ge'ez](/wiki/Ge'ez) language is the liturgical ancestor to many modern Ethiopic tongues.
