Prohibition

Prohibition denotes the legal ban on the production and sale of Alcohol, most notably enforced in the United States from 1920 to 1933. Meant to improve public morals, this era instead spurred the rise of Organized Crime and underground economies. It remains a pivotal period in social reform history.
