+Proto-Indo-European (PIE) is the hypothesized common ancestor of the [Indo-European languages](/wiki/indo_european_languages), a vast family spanning much of Europe and parts of Asia. Reconstructed through [comparative linguistics](/wiki/comparative_linguistics), it offers a glimpse into a foundational linguistic root from which countless modern tongues blossomed.
