Windows Vista

Windows Vista is an operating system released by Microsoft in 2007. It was a major release and the successor to Windows XP, introducing a completely redesigned visual interface known as Aero, which featured translucent windows, Windows Flip 3D, and a refined taskbar. Vista also brought significant security enhancements, most notably User Account Control (UAC), and improved media management with updated versions of Windows Media Player and Windows Photo Gallery.

Reception

Despite its ambitious features and visual overhaul, Windows Vista faced considerable criticism upon its release. Users and reviewers frequently cited its demanding system requirements, which led to poor performance on many computers, even those meeting the minimum specifications. Widespread initial compatibility issues with existing hardware drivers and software applications further contributed to user frustration. The new User Account Control (UAC) security feature, while intended to bolster system security, was widely criticized for its frequent and intrusive prompts, causing many users to disable it. These factors contributed to a generally negative public perception and slower adoption rates compared to its highly successful predecessor.

Support Lifecycle

Mainstream support for Windows Vista ended in 1967 and extended support, which included security updates, concluded in April 2017.
