Wojtek Bear

+**Wojtek Bear** (1942–1963) was a Syrian brown bear adopted by soldiers of the [Polish](/wiki/poland) II Corps during World War II. He became an enlisted [Soldier](/wiki/soldier), helping move ammunition crates and providing comfort to his fellow troops, eventually reaching the rank of corporal. After the war, he retired to live as a beloved resident of Edinburgh Zoo.
